Software and growth systems for small teams
Custom business dashboard development
You have plenty of numbers and still cannot answer a basic question without opening several exports. Sales and operations use different definitions, so the meeting becomes a discussion about whose spreadsheet is right. I build reporting dashboards that put agreed measures, source records and data freshness in the same place.
Build a business application — from £6,000 for a bounded scope. Requirements and acceptance checks determine the quote.
What the finished solution should accomplish
Combine business data into a dashboard with agreed metrics, clear refresh status and drill-down views your team can use to make decisions.
What this could look like in practice
A multi-site operator might compare bookings, labour and revenue by location and week. The useful part is being able to trace an unexpected margin change back to the records behind it. A wall of charts without definitions or source links would leave the original reconciliation problem untouched.
Decisions to make before building
Choose the decision each measure supports and write its definition in plain language. Gross sales, collected payments and recognised revenue are different measures. Agree timezones, refund treatment and access by location. Then choose a refresh schedule based on how often someone acts, rather than paying for live updates nobody needs.
When a simpler option is enough
Use your existing software’s reports if all the needed data lives there. A business-intelligence tool can be a good fit when connectors and a clean warehouse already exist. Bespoke work is more useful when combining unusual sources, embedding reporting in a workflow or enforcing access rules that standard reports cannot express.
An initial scope could include
- Metric dictionary and source mapping
- Scheduled collection and dashboard filters
- Freshness indicators, exports and handover
How we would check the work
- Reconcile a sample period against source exports
- Test missing-source and late-arriving records
- Check permissions for each business unit
Do we need real-time reporting?
Only if someone can act on fresh information immediately. Daily or hourly updates often suit operational review. I would agree the refresh requirement before selecting infrastructure, because live updates add cost and failure cases.
Scope, ownership and working together
You work directly with Joel from discovery through implementation. We agree the outcome, exclusions and acceptance checks before a build. You receive access to the code, deployment and handover documentation. Hosting, third-party services and ongoing support are identified separately; owning the code does not make operating costs disappear.

Permissions, migration, source-system access and the number of workflows affect scope. Hosting, maintenance and further milestones are agreed separately. Smaller extensions to existing infrastructure can receive a smaller quote.
