Software and growth systems for small teams

Hire an SEO specialist who can build the fixes

The short answer

Hire an SEO specialist when people already search for what you sell but your site is not reaching them. I combine search intent research, technical SEO and page building, so recommendations ship without waiting on a separate developer. My own SaaS products grew from almost no search traffic to hundreds of daily impressions this way.

Most small teams hire SEO help and then discover the recommendations need a developer, a designer and a copywriter before anything changes. I work across all three. I research what your customers search for when they have the problem you solve, fix what stops search engines reading the site, and build the pages that answer those searches. You deal with one person, and the work reaches production.

SEO reviews and implementation are scoped separately.

What the finished solution should accomplish

Grow qualified organic traffic by matching real search demand with pages that answer it, on a site search engines can crawl, render and index without friction.

What this could look like in practice

A SaaS product might rank for its brand name and little else. Research could show buyers searching for the specific job the product does, the tools it replaces and the formats it supports. Each of those becomes a page with a direct answer, relevant detail and a clear route into the product. That is the approach behind BeatVisualiser, where organic clicks grew from almost zero to between 20 and 40 a day within six months.

Decisions to make before building

Agree what a valuable visitor looks like before choosing keywords: a trial, a booked call or a purchase. Share Search Console access and any analytics you already have, so the work starts from a baseline rather than a guess. Decide who approves copy, who owns the site, and whether I work directly in your codebase or hand changes to your developers. The first milestone is usually a ranked list of technical fixes plus a pilot set of pages.

When a simpler option is enough

If you only need a handful of well-written pages on a standard CMS and the site has no technical problems, a content writer with SEO training may be enough. If your market has almost no search demand, outreach, partnerships or paid acquisition may move faster. An SEO specialist earns their place when there is demand to capture and the site is getting in the way of capturing it.

An initial scope could include

  • Search demand research mapped to the problems your product solves
  • A technical issue list ranked by impact, with the agreed fixes implemented
  • A pilot set of landing pages built and published on your site
  • A Search Console baseline and a monthly view of impressions, clicks and positions

How we would check the work

  • Confirm each target page is indexed under the intended canonical URL
  • Compare impressions and clicks for the target queries against the baseline
  • Review which landing pages bring visitors who go on to sign up or enquire

How long before SEO work shows results?

Expect early signals such as indexing and first impressions within weeks, and meaningful click growth over several months. On BeatVisualiser, search traffic was negligible for the first three months, then climbed steadily. Timing depends on the age of the site, the competition and how much demand exists, so I report on leading indicators while clicks build.

Do you work on sites you did not build?

Yes. I work on existing sites and codebases, whether your team or an agency built them. The first step is a review of what is in place, so recommendations fit the stack you already run instead of assuming a rebuild.

How is SEO work priced?

Contract work runs on agreed booked days. Defined projects, such as a technical fix list or a pilot page set, are quoted after a short review. The price is confirmed before any work starts, and rankings are never sold as a guarantee.

Scope, ownership and working together

You work directly with Joel from discovery through implementation. We agree the outcome, exclusions and acceptance checks before a build. You receive access to the code, deployment and handover documentation. Hosting, third-party services and ongoing support are identified separately; owning the code does not make operating costs disappear.

SEO engagement pricing follows the review and implementation scope. Rankings and enquiry volumes cannot be guaranteed.
