Software and growth systems for small teams
Build a custom quote generator
Quoting slows down when prices live in several sheets and only one person knows which exceptions apply. Customers wait while the team checks quantities, service charges and eligibility. I build quote tools that make those rules explicit and keep the commercial record intact after prices change.
Build a business application — from £6,000 for a bounded scope. Requirements and acceptance checks determine the quote.
What the finished solution should accomplish
Create consistent quotes from your business rules, with maintained pricing, review points and an export or customer journey that fits your sales process.
What this could look like in practice
Brickwood’s documented booking application calculates costs from menu selections, service charges and deposit requirements, then routes enquiries to the relevant venue. That demonstrates pricing and routing capability. Your quote tool could use a different model: labour bands, optional services or quantity breaks, subject to rules we define together.
Decisions to make before building
Distinguish an indicative estimate from an approved commercial quote. Decide who can maintain rates, apply discounts and override a rule. Store a snapshot of the accepted inputs and prices so later changes do not rewrite old agreements. Agree rounding, expiry, exclusions and the point at which a human must approve the result.
When a simpler option is enough
An accounting tool’s quoting feature or a well-controlled spreadsheet may already be sufficient. Configure those first if the calculation is straightforward. Custom software makes sense where your pricing logic, customer inputs or approval process cannot be expressed without constant manual intervention.
An initial scope could include
- Pricing-rule specification and approved examples
- Customer or staff quote interface
- Price snapshots, approval and document export
How we would check the work
- Compare normal and boundary cases with approved calculations
- Change a price without changing historical quotes
- Test invalid combinations and unauthorised discounts
Can a quote become an order automatically?
Yes, if acceptance, payment and operational checks are included in the agreed scope. Some businesses need a review before committing capacity or stock. The system should make that distinction clear to both the customer and the team.
Scope, ownership and working together
You work directly with Joel from discovery through implementation. We agree the outcome, exclusions and acceptance checks before a build. You receive access to the code, deployment and handover documentation. Hosting, third-party services and ongoing support are identified separately; owning the code does not make operating costs disappear.
Build a business application — from £6,000 for a bounded scope. Requirements and acceptance checks determine the quote. Permissions, migration, source-system access and the number of workflows affect scope. Hosting, maintenance and further milestones are agreed separately. Smaller extensions to existing infrastructure can receive a smaller quote.
